Michael Shane Hulvey has been Arrested by Deputies

Community, Police & Government
Michael Shane Hulvey has been arrested by deputies.
On Wednesday, July 6, 2022, Deputy Robin Hood initiated a traffic stop on Winters Road after she observed a grey Chevrolet pickup truck run a stop sign. During the traffic stop, the male originally cooperated by handing the deputy his license and the female passenger appeared to cooperate by giving the deputy her information. Deputy Hood ran the tag, and it did not come back right so she moved the male back to her vehicle in order to check for a VIN number. When Deputy Hood was searching for a VIN number, the male ran, and the deputy could not give chase due to having the passenger in the truck. The female passenger originally gave the wrong name and date of birth to Deputy Hood and as Deputy Hood was speaking to the female trying to get her real name, she observed a Ziplock bag of what was suspected methamphetamine in plain view sitting in what was left of the dash.
Back-up deputies arrived on scene and the female, now known as Caitlin Pauline Wood, 23 years old from Fruithurst, AL, was arrested on multiple outstanding warrants. Wood was also charged with Giving False Information, Obstruction, Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute. The male, Michael Shane Hulvey, 41 years old from Felton, GA, is now wanted on multiple charges including Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute, Stop Sign Violation, No Valid Decal, No Valid Registration and other traffic related offenses.
“This is one of the communities that I have met with that are having serious issues with drug related crime. We have done several Crime Suppression Operations in that area and our Patrol Deputies actively try to get up there and check the area as much as possible,” states Sheriff Stacy Williams. “We will continue this effort around Haralson County so that the citizens here can have peaceful enjoyment of their property.”

On Sunday, June 6, 2021, deputies were dispatched to the area of Allgood Church Road and Coppermine Road in reference to suspicious persons. Several deputies were already in the area looking for a wanted person and they responded. Arriving deputies observed a male, later identified as Ronald Hayes drop a baggie of suspected methamphetamine and went to speak to him. From that investigation, Robert Joseph Thompson was arrested for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and Charles Robert Morris was arrested for Maintaining a Disorderly House, his second arrest for that charge this year. “These houses that are used for drug dealing and drug use are a source for many overdoses this year and they are a major problem in this county. Detention Officer Terminated and Charged with Felonies

Announcements, Community, Police & Government, Press Release
multiple drug arrests
On Tuesday, March 2nd, 2021, at approximately 6:00 p.m., as a result of an investigation that has spanned several weeks, Sheriff Stacy Williams placed Detention Officer Brandy “Joelle” Guthrie under arrest and immediately terminated her from employment with the Haralson County Sheriff’s Office. Guthrie, who had begun her employment with the Sheriff’s Office in October of 2020, has been charged with Crossing a Guard-line with Contraband and Suspected Drugs and Violation of Oath of Office, both of which are felony charges.
Shortly after taking office at the beginning of the year, Sheriff Williams had directed his staff to investigate complaints and allegations on criminal activity occurring within the jail facility. Captain Edwin Ivey, the Jail Division Commander, spear-headed the investigation, along with the crucial assistance of Sergeant Heather Browning, Investigator Heather Mecillas, and Sergeant Callie Chambers. During the course of the investigation, several inmates were identified as being involved in a conspiracy to bring drugs into the facility, and evidence indicated that it possibly involved at least one employee.
One two separate occasions during the investigation, methamphetamine, marijuana, and Alprazolam were intercepted during their attempted delivery into the facility by Captain Ivey and his jail staff. Earlier this date, suspected methamphetamine and contraband were located in the possession of inmates by jail staff conducting a search, which had apparently been delivered to them by Guthrie. After the initial discovery of the drugs and contraband within the facility, Sheriff Williams called upon the assistance of the Haralson-Paulding Drug Task Force and the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, which aided in the location of more items.
In relation to the charges against former employee Guthrie, four inmates have been charged with possession of drugs and contraband within the jail facility: Dustin Mullins, Randell Eric Clayton, Christopher Bynum, and Tobias Anderson. Additionally, as a result of the on-going investigation by Captain Ivey, Mullins, Anderson, another former inmate, and a former employee will be facing separate charges from the previous incidents and intercepted drugs.
Sheriff Williams stated, “This agency and this administration will hold ourselves and our employees to the highest standards of professionalism. Allegations of employee misconduct will be investigated thoroughly, and any employee who tarnishes their badge or betrays the trust of their office will be dealt with swiftly and justly.”
This investigation is on-going; no other information will be released at this time pending completion of the investigation.

HCMS Student Chosen to Lead Girls Empowering Movement Physical Activity Program

Announcements, Board of Education, Education, Featured, Press Release
student selected for GHP
(Tallapoosa, GA)— Ayshiah Frazier, Haralson County Middle School 7th grader, has been selected by HealthMPowers and Wolf Wellness Lab at the University of West Georgia as a student leader for the new Girls Empowering Movement Program (GEM). Sponsored by The Atlanta Falcons Youth Foundation, GEM is a five-year statewide initiative to improve middle school girls’ physical activity.
Spurred by Georgia FitnessGram® data that shows a sharp decline in girls’ aerobic capacity from 51 percent in 5th grade to only 31 percent in 12th grade and a gender disparity in fitness levels among middle school girls and boys, the program will empower and engage 18,000 girls from 120 sites across Georgia. The GEM program will be implemented in schools, Girl Scout Troops, and Boys and Girls Clubs starting in the fall of 2021.

“GEM is very different because it’s being designed by an all-girl leadership group” said Ayshiah Frazier. “Sometimes girls don’t like exercising with the boys around. GEM is made just for girls so they can feel more comfortable being active together.”
The Girls Empowering Movement is a collaborative initiative led by HealthMPowers in partnership with: Boys and Girls Clubs of Georgia, Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta, Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia, and Wolf Wellness Lab at the University of West Georgia. The organizations are working together to ensure that the girls’ voice drives all program elements and keeps them at the forefront.
Ayshiah is one of only 14 middle school girls from across the state selected to serve on the GEM Leadership Team. The girls have been working closely with HealthMPowers staff during the design phase of the program and collectively decided on the name GEM because they felt it represented the strength, value and confidence they hope to inspire in their peers. The Team also announced the project in a video and provided direction in creating the GEM logo.
“The collaboration and insights from the GEM Leadership Team have been integral to creating a physical activity program tailored to meet girls’ needs,” said Christi Kay, Project Director, HealthMPowers.
As a leader in this movement, Ayshiah aims to have a positive impact, “Having a successful future and being more self-confident begins with good health. By working with this group, I want to help others experience the benefits of being more physically active.”
