High Speed Pursuit in Haralson

PRESS RELEASE – On Friday, February 14, 2025 at around 9:15 PM, Cpl. Travis Short observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on HWY 27. Cpl. Short was able to determine that the SUV was traveling at 75 MPH in a 55 MPH zone, so he initiated a traffic stop but the black Nissan Murano sped up and began to drive erratically.

Additional units joined in the pursuit and deputies were able to identify the driver.

During the chase, speeds reached over 90 MPH and the driver went into other lanes toward oncoming traffic and ran through traffic control devices.

The deputies decided to discontinue to the chase due to the dangerous and reckless driving of the offender who they had identified and could take charges on.

A short time later, Cpl. Short observed the vehicle on the side of the road close to the bypass in Buchanan.

Cpl. Short approached the vehicle and attempted to speak to the driver who refused to acknowledge he was there.

The driver was removed from the disabled vehicle and was arrested.

Montana Grace Haling, an 18-year-old W/F out of Bremen, GA has been charged with Felony Fleeing and Attempting to Elude Police and over 20 traffic offenses from two jurisdictions that include Failure to Maintain Lane, Reckless Driving, Speeding and Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device.

“In these types of situations, we have to take several things into consideration including road conditions, the recklessness of the driver, the identity of the offender, and so much more,” states Sheriff Stacy Williams. “These deputies knew who the driver was and recognized it was better for everyone, including her and our citizens on the roads last night, to discontinue the chase. By continuing to stay in the area, they were able to locate and arrest her on her charges.”
