HARALSON COUNTY, Ga. — A Haralson County woman faces multiple felony charges following a theft investigation that led to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine and a firearm during a traffic stop, according to authorities.
The investigation began Monday, May 11, when Deputy Robert Vaughn responded to a report of a theft that had already occurred. During the investigation, authorities learned Kailyn Dempsey had allegedly borrowed several items from the complainant and failed to return them.
Investigators also said Dempsey allegedly made threats to kill the complainant during a phone call. Multiple witnesses, including children, reportedly heard the threats. Deputy Vaughn collected witness statements and photographed messages in which Dempsey allegedly admitted to possessing the items.
Authorities attempted to locate Dempsey at her last known residence but were unsuccessful. Warrants were later secured for her arrest.
Later that evening, Corporal Jon Henderson reportedly spotted Dempsey’s vehicle traveling on Highway 27 near Bremen and initiated a traffic stop. A Bremen Police Department K-9 officer responded to assist and conducted a free-air sniff around the vehicle, which resulted in a positive alert, authorities said.
During a probable cause search of the vehicle, officers located suspected methamphetamine and a firearm.
Dempsey was taken into custody and is charged with Terroristic Threats, Theft by Conversion, Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.
