Echols’ 4 TDs lead Heard over Breman

On Friday night the Heard County Braves (4-4) (1-1) traveled to the Bremen Blue Devils (5-3) (1-1) in a region game. Heard County was coming off a loss to the 1 seeded Haralson County Rebels while the Blue Devils are coming off a win as they defeated the Temple Tigers.

 

The Braves received the opening kickoff and started 1st and 10 at their own 20. After a 3 and out the Braves punted, and the Blue Devils set up for their first drive 1st and 10 at their own 49. The Braves also forced a 3 and out.  On the 1st of the 2nd drive Jonathan Echols took the snap and went around the left side 57 yards to the house for the games first score.

 

It took Bremen a little over a minute to answer coming off a trick play where Blake Matthews was able to connect with Christian Burks for a 25-yard touchdown. The Blue Devils had now tied the game up at 7.

After a long drive Jonathan Echols followed a huge push by his O-line and was able to punch it in from 4-yards out. Bremen was able to make a huge push in the middle behind Avery Hill and was able to block the point after. The Braves now went back on top 13-7.

 

Jonathan Echols once again followed a huge push by his O-Line and was able to push in from 3-yards out. Heard would attempt a 2-point conversion but was not successful. The Braves now lead 19-7.

 

Blake Matthew would once again get Bremen on the board with 1 second left before halftime. The Team would head to half Heard leading 19-14.

 

The Blue Devils would receive the 2nd half kickoff put would be forced to punt. After a huge defensive stand Bremen would force a 4th down. The Braves would go for it on 4th and 3 and get it. The next play Jonathan Echols would connect with Michael Whitten for a 50-yard passing touchdown. Avery Hill would once again lead the charge and block the extra point. The Braves would go up 25-14 with 6:15 left in the 3rd.

 

Bremen would put together a good drive but would settle for a 49-yard field goal and put the game back at a 1 score game. The score was now 25-17.

 

With 33.7 seconds left Christian Burks would hit Nick Richardson from 11-yards out to put the Blue Devils within 2 points.  Heard County would stop the 2-point conversion to force Bremen to kick an onside. The Bremen onside would not be successful, and Heard County would win the game.

 

Heard County improves to (5-4) (2-1) in region play and next week will host their rivals the Callaway Cavaliers (6-2) (2-1) with a chance to take the #2 seed in the region and host a playoff game. Bremen falls to (5-4) (1-2) in region play and will travel to the region champ Haralson County Rebels to finish up the regular season.
