HARALSON COUNTY, Ga. – A traffic stop earlier this month resulted in the arrest of a wanted suspect and multiple charges against a driver, according to law enforcement officials.

Authorities said the incident occurred Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2026, when a sergeant with the Crime Suppression Unit observed a vehicle committing three traffic violations and initiated a stop. Officials said the vehicle initially failed to stop, prompting the deputy to request backup. The vehicle later pulled over.

When the vehicle stopped, officials said a passenger exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Deputies assisting with the stop were able to locate and detain the individual.

During the investigation, deputies determined the driver did not have a valid driver’s license. The passenger was later identified as Johnny Shane Oswalt, who authorities said had multiple felony warrants out of Haralson and Polk counties.

According to officials, a rifle was also located in the back seat of the vehicle during an inventory search.

Oswalt was arrested on outstanding warrants including parole violation, two counts of probation violation, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, driving too fast for conditions, and additional traffic-related offenses. Authorities also obtained additional charges of obstruction and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The driver, identified as Brittany Sherrod, was charged with fleeing and attempting to elude, driving on a suspended license, and equipment violations related to a taillight.

Officials said the case remains part of ongoing efforts to enforce traffic laws and apprehend individuals with outstanding warrants.
