Man arrested on multiple charges after attempting to evade police

HARALSON COUNTY, Ga. – On Monday, March 4, 2024, members of the Haralson County Crime Suppression Unit were out attempting to serve an outstanding felony warrant on Sparky Chad Marcus.

The CSU had learned Marcus was driving a U-Haul van and they went to his residence on Providence Church Spur to see if they could locate him.

While CSU was at the home the U-Haul van turned in and as deputies went to approach Marcus to arrest him, Marcus turned around in the van almost striking two deputies before fleeing.

Sgt. Trenton Benson and Sgt. Terry McAdams began to pursue Marcus on Providence Spur Road and then onto Old Highway 100.

During the pursuit, Marcus was speeding excessively, driving on the wrong side of the roadway and drove through several yards.

Sgt. McAdams was able to perform a PIT maneuver on the U-Haul van and it came to rest in a ditch.

Sgt. Benson boxed the van in so Marcus could not flee and approached from the front.

Marcus began to struggle during the arrest, so Sgt. McAdams deployed K-9 Janco. Marcus was then taken into custody.

Sparky Chad Marcus, a 29-year-old W/M out of Tallapoosa, GA is now facing Driving While License Suspended, Fleeing and Attempting to Elude, Reckless Driving and other traffic related offenses as well as warrants for Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer, Felony Fleeing and Attempting to Elude and Obstruction.

He will also be facing his original Felony Probation Violation in addition to being wanted in another jurisdiction.

“This individual had no regard for the lives of the deputies or any citizen that was in his path today,” states Sheriff Stacy Williams. “He will face the appropriate charges for his actions as well as answer for his outstanding felony warrant. I would like to say that I appreciate the effort of our Crime Suppression Unit today in taking this dangerous felon off the streets.”
