High speed pursuit in Haralson County

PRESS RELEASE – On Saturday, November 4, 2023, at a little before 9:00 AM, Sgt. Jarred Taylor attempted a traffic stop on Jacksonville Road at Allen Road on a 2000 Black Jeep Cherokee for a Tail Light Violation.

When Sgt. Taylor initiated his blue lights, the driver of the Jeep increased their speed and refused to stop.

During the pursuit, the Jeep went over into Cleburne County Alabama on CR 14. Sgt. Taylor requested the assistance of the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office and was able to stay with the vehicle through multiple turns until deputies from the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office joined the pursuit.

Just outside of Heflin, Alabama, the driver ran the vehicle into the woods and then took off on foot, she was quickly apprehended by Sgt. Taylor and Cleburne County Deputies.

After the pursuit was over, a quantity of suspected methamphetamine was located in the Jeep Cherokee.

Crystal LeAnn Coaty, a 43-year-old W/F formerly of Heflin, Alabama was arrested by the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office and charged with multiple offenses.

Sgt. Taylor has taken a felony VGCSA Possession of Methamphetamine warrant against Coaty and she also faces multiple traffic offenses including Tail Light Violation, Failure to Stop at Stop Sign and Reckless Driving. A hold has been placed for Coaty with the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office.

“I like to see our deputies proactively patrolling Haralson County backroads, we never know just what we will run across. It is important that citizens see us, but it is especially important that those who intend to do wrong see us in unlikely places,” states Sheriff Stacy Williams. “I would like to thank the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office for their quick response and help today in this pursuit. The teamwork between Haralson and Cleburne helps both agencies serve our communities better.”
