PRESS RELEASE – On August 16, 2023, a little after 1:00 AM, Deputy Brady Henderson was advised that there was a Be On The Lookout (BOLO) for a reckless driver coming out of Carroll County on 27.
Deputy Henderson observed a vehicle coming at him at a high rate of speed and pulled out behind the vehicle at Bushmill Road.
The red KIA Sorento was going 96 Miles Per Hour (MPH), and also weaving and failing to maintain its lane so Deputy B Henderson initiated his lights and sirens attempting a traffic stop. The driver of the KIA Sorento failed to comply with that stop.
The high-speed chase went down Hilltop Drive and Business 27 in Buchanan at speeds between 85 and 96 MPH.
The vehicle did run a red light in Buchanan and came to a stop at Payton Place where the two females exited and ran on foot.
Dispatch advised Deputy Henderson that the KIA Sorento was stolen out of Columbus Georgia. Sgt. Terry McAdams and K-9 Janco were called to the scene to track the females that ran on foot.
During the track of the suspects, Sgt. Rodney Smith apprehended them hiding inside a trash can at the corner of Business 27 and College Circle in Buchanan, GA.
The two females were identified as juvenile runaways out of Columbus Georgia, so their names will not be released.
The Department of Juvenile Justice was notified and took custody of the two female juveniles. The KIA Sorento was recovered and will be returned to the owner.
