PRESS RELEASE – The Haralson County Sheriff’s Office is still searching for an escaped work detail inmate.
On June 10, 2023, an inmate worker walked off of a special detail in Tallapoosa, Georgia around 10:40 AM.
The detail officer contacted Command Staff and a search began. Haralson County K-9 Team, Sgt. Kirkland and K-9 Tora began to track the escapee. K-9’s can only track so long before they tire out, and Command Staff pulled in several other K-9 teams to assist in the search.
At the time K-9 Tora became tired, a K-9 Team from the Haralson County School Police took over followed by a K-9 Team from Cedartown Police Department, followed by a K-9 Team from Bremen Police Department and then a K-9 Team from Paulding County Sheriff’s Office.
We were also assisted by a Georgia State Patrol helicopter in the search, but we were not able to locate Michael Kirk Chappell.
Investigators and Deputies followed leads and searched through the night for Chappell.
We have received multiple tips and sightings of Chappell and have an unsubstantiated report that Chappell is in Cleburne County AL.
We continue to search and ask that if anyone has any information, please reach out to us and if you see Chappell, please call 911 immediately.
We would like to thank the HC School Police, the Cedartown Police Department, the Bremen Police Department, the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia State Patrol for their assistance yesterday. We would also like to give a special thank you to Lt. Gene Brown and the Tallapoosa Police Department for all the extra support and assistance.
