Haralson Overcomes Bowdon To Pick Up Win #2

Written by DJ Coffman

On Friday night the Haralson County Rebels faced off against the Bowdon Red Devils.  Haralson County was coming off their first loss of the season to Manchester where they seemed to not be able to get things started on offense. Bowdon was coming off a huge rivalry win against Bremen where they witnessed their junior quarterback Robert Mcneal account for 5 touchdowns and over 400 yards.

Haralson County received the opening kickoff and ran off over 8 minutes of the first quarter before turning the ball over.

Bowdon took over deep in their own territory and struggled to get anything started in their first drive on offense.

We saw the first score of the game come from a 21-yard passing touchdown from Haralson Counties Clay Hyatt to Jojo Chandler with a little over 5 minutes left in the half.

Bowdon drove down the field and in the last seconds of the half settled for a field goal. At the half Haralson County was up 7-3 and looked to have the Bowdon offense locked down.

Coming out for the second half Bowdon received the kick and had a huge return to be set up on Haralson Counties 38-yard line.

Bowdon’s Tanner Langley took it up the middle to give Bowdon their first touchdown and lead of the game making the score 10-7 with 9:43 left in the 3rd.

On the next drive Haralson County was in a long 3rd down situation when Clay Hyatt broke off a huge momentum swinging run to get the Rebel’s into the redzone. 2 plays later Clay Hyatt took it up the middle for a Haralson County touchdown to take back the lead 14-10 with a little over a minute left in the 3rd.

With both teams first drives to start the 4th resulting in a punt. Bowdon had the ball with less then 3 minutes left in the game.

Bowdon was able to get inside the red zone with less then a minute on the clock. Haralson Counties defense was relentless in letting them into the endzone with getting 3 straight stops 2 resulting in losses. The final play Bowdon had a chance to win and came up short with an overthrown pass out of the back off the endzone.

Haralson County got back into the win column (2-1) and will play Model (1-2) next week at home, while Bowdon suffers their first loss of the season putting them at (2-1) and they will host Heritage (0-1).
